Yves Saint Laurent

Tuesday Shoesday: Fall Fringe

Some time ago, I mentioned these shoes briefly in a double-take post, and just recently realized that I have never featured this gorgeous pair! These Yves Saint Laurent Opyum pumps were probably my most fortunate footwear find. I was in the St. David’s TJ Maxx store during the tail end of the winter clearance event last year. There were a fair amount of clothing clearance bargains still left but after perusing the shoes and not finding much in my size, I headed off to the registers. As I was waiting in line, I decided to dig through a large clearance bin nearby…and I came across these. I’m not sure who stuffed them into the container filled with lotions and beauty products, but I’m so very glad that they did!

Double-Take: YSL Clara

Yves Saint Laurent YSL Clara Pump
YSL Clara (Barneys – sold out) $695

Even though the Clara pump is considered “past season,” the design is timeless. This beautiful pump from YSL is classic with an unexpected twist: a subtle metal detail on the heel. Clara is part of a collection from before YSL was re-branded to Saint Laurent.

I’m glad that a double-take exists, especially because it’s done almost as beautifully as the original. The Amy pump from Guess by Marciano is pretty much an exact copy of Clara. The only standout difference is that the leather is not as shiny and the interior is tan instead of black. They’re also pretty affordable, especially if you’re looking to “invest” in a good-quality black pump. But if you still want the original, Gilt is having a YSL sale today, which includes the Clara pump in platinum and red. You can also find the 3″ version on Yoox.

Vince Camuto Cynthea (The Shoe Box

I love this double-take from Vince Camuto because it’s a suede version of the beautiful YSL Clara, and I’m more partial to suede than leather. Vince Camuto also makes their shoes out of high quality leathers, which are usually very soft and comfortable.

Schutz Verniz (Ideeli)

Update August 8: The Verniz pump from Schutz is another great alternative to the YSL Clara. I have three different pairs of Schutz shoes, and they’re all extremely high quality. But hurry, I’m not sure how long the deal on Ideeli will last!

Update August 15: Gilt is having a Schutz sale today with the same pump, except under the name Saulo. It’s also cheaper than on Ideeli.

Double-Take: Saint Laurent Jane Sandal

Saint Laurent Jane Sandal
Apparently I can’t get enough of minimalist ankle-strap sandals this season. My favorite is the Saint Laurent Jane Sandal because it just looks so sleek and elegant. I want it in my closet; it’s absolutely perfect. I love that the ankle strap rests well above the ankle bone (I find straps on the ankle bone uncomfortable) and that the silhouette is so simple. I wrote about the Manolo Blahnik Chaos last week, which is another great pair of simple sandals, but something about the Jane Sandal really calls to me. Of course, it’s way out of my budget, but luckily there is a really good double-take version out there from Zara:
Zara Leather Sandal

My local store only had the nude version in my size, so I tried it on to make sure it fits before I order it. The straps feel secure, and it’s fairly comfortable for a 4″ heel. The only thing that’s holding me back from pressing the check out button is that the Zara version has a polyester and PU lining and I always try to buy shoes that are all leather, especially if they’re over $30. But it’s very tempting!

On their feet: Shoes at the punk-themed Met Gala

Aubrey Plaza in Barbara Bui Heels

Of course I noticed all the dresses, but I was definitely paying more attention to the shoes worn for the punk-themed Met gala last week. I was surprised how many I actually recognized. I picked out several of my favorites, as well as tracked down where you could get some of them if you really wanted to. Enjoy!

Double-Take: YSL Opyum 80

Yves Saint Laurent is probably one of my favorite designers because there is always something I love in the collection season after season (and I’m not just talking about the shoes!) The Opyum 80 pump from a few seasons ago (sold out on The Outnet and Bluefly) is an absolutely stunning pump in person. There are two versions, one with a 3.5″ heel and one with a 4.25″ heel. The shape of the heel, vamp, and toe-box is absolute perfection, and looks very flattering on the foot. I was lucky enough to find a pair at TJ Maxx, but there is a budget version by Ivanka Trump which comes in a range of colors and prices on Amazon, 6pm, and DSW. The Dinah has a 3″ heel, which is definitely more wearable for those who aren’t used to wearing super high heels. I haven’t had a chance to try on the Dinah, but reviews online are positive; it appears to be true to size and well-made.
