Gucci-Jane-Sandal-Bootie-with-Ankle-Straps

Double-Take: Gucci Jane Sandal Bootie

There are endless possibilities when designing a shootie, and the Gucci Jane sandal bootie (still available on Yoox) is a perfect example of the ideal balance between sandal and shoe. The front of the shoe covers the foot, while the back leaves it exposed, yet secured with the two ankle straps. I also love the use of both leather and suede. The Jane is, in my opinion, a very stunning and versatile shoe. It can be worn with bare legs, tights, and would probably even look great with textured socks. You can still catch it on some flash sale sites (last spotted on Ideeli for $640) but even then, they’re still pricey.

Alexander-Wang-Amber-Cuffed-Ankle-Sandal

Double-Take: Alexander Wang Amber

I’ve always liked Alexander Wang shoes because they’re minimal yet statement-making at the same time. I particularly like how he sticks to black and white (or other solid colors) for the entire shoe for many of his styles; just take peek at the current collection here to see what I mean. While some people love explosive colors and patterns on their shoes, I’m more partial to designs in one or two colors max.

Ten Classic pumps under $100.

There’s one style that absolutely every woman, shoe-lover or not, must have in her closet: a classic pump. Since a classic pump is the go-to shoe, sticking to neutrals is your best bet; the most practical color for a classic pump is black. But once you have a pair or two of those, feel free to branch into brights!
Although it seens classic pumps would be easy to find since they’re always in style, it can get tricky to locate the perfect pair. There’s a lot to consider: material, heel height, brand, vamp and heel shape, color, and price. It took me a long time to find the perfect black pumps, so I created a handy list of some great classic styles all under $100 to help other shoe-lovers out there. I’m a suede-addict so my first instinct was to find those, but I also made sure to include pairs made of other materials.

Manolo-Blahnik-BB-Black-Suede-Pump

Double-Take: Manolo Blahnik BB

Manolo Blahnik BB (Saks – in many colors; Barneys; Bergdorf Goodman)

The Manolo Blahnik BB Pump. Perfection. There’s no other shoe that calls my name more than the BB; it’s simple, classic, and sexy with all the right curves and proportions. Named after French siren Brigitte Bardot, there’s a reason these pumps are seen everywhere on everyone. They just work. You can wear anything with these shoes and still look fabulous. And let’s not forget that most Manolos are extremely comfortable, at least in my opinion. Whenever I tried them on (I’ve yet to own a pair), they felt right at home on my feet as I pranced around in the shoe department.

In June, Neiman Marcus opened their made-to-order BB boutique, where you can customize your BBs by choosing the heel height, color, and material for your new pumps. After you submit your order, the shoes are made in Italy and shipped to you. The best part? A customized pair doesn’t cost any more than a retail pair!

It’s my dream to someday buy myself my very own pair of Manolo BB pumps. But for now, I’ll just eye them from afar, and perhaps temporarily satisfy myself with a double-take.
Vince Camuto Harty (teal on Shoebox, other colors on Amazon)

I’ve had a lot of success with Vince Camuto lately; they offer trendy shoes in addition to classic styles. And their flats are extremely comfortable! You can’t go wrong with the Harty pump. The shape is beautiful and very similar to the Manolo BB.

Feast your eyes on other scrumptious styles…

Whistles French 75 (Asos)

Boutique 9 Migs (Zappos, Macy’s)

Manolo Blahnik BB (Neiman Marcus)
Although I’m lusting after a pair in black suede, I really like the BB in metallic grey. The color works wonderfully as a neutral, and the metallic sheen creates a modern, edgy, and sophisticated vibe. Because the color is more matte than silver, the pumps will last long after the metallic trend has faded.

ShoeMint Gelareh
Some time ago, ShoeMint had the best Manolo Blahnik BB double-take I’ve ever seen. The Gelareh came in three different colors: silver, yellow suede, and wine patent. They sold out extremely fast, and I regret not getting the yellow pair. However, they just released their August collection, which includes a pump named Bess that looks strikingly similar to Gelareh. It’s available in four fantastic colors, and they’re all suede!  Here’s your chance to get what I think is the next best thing to the BB pump if you’re on a budget:

Update August 8: I just came across these pumps from Victoria’s Secret. They look extremely similar to the BB and come in a bunch of gorgeous colors! They are a bit out of my price range for pumps, but they are made of leather and look very classic, so it might be worth the investment if you love them!

Sergio-Rossi-Yellow-Satin-Sandal

Double-Take: Sergio Rossi Yellow Sandal

Sergio Rossi Satin Sandal
Sergio Rossi Satin Sandal (DSW)

Despite the fact that yellow is considered a happy color, few people gravitate towards it when it comes to choosing shoes or clothing. Many don’t think the color suits them; but it really just comes down to figuring out which shade works with your skin tone. Once that’s figured out, the rest should be easy! I think any shade of yellow is a great color for shoes because it’s so bright, eye-catching, and mood-lifting. Yellow complements just about any other color, but works especially well with navy, burgundy, and neutrals like grey, brown, black and white. The Sergio Rossi shoes above are very simple and versatile; the rich yellow satin would look great worn with a summer dress and bare legs in warm weather, and stunning over a pair of opaque tights paired with a sweater dress for fall.

ShoeMint Sadie
ShoeMint Sadie (also available in emerald green)

Although the Sergio Rossi shoes have been greatly reduced from the original retail price, they’re still a bit expensive. The Sadie pump from ShoeMint is a great alternative and looks extremely similar to the original. I actually prefer the look of Sadie because the heel is more slender, which makes the entire shoe look more elegant and less clunky.

Tuesday Shoesday: Silver Pumps

IMGP8385_edit-3

Silver is great as a neutral, and in the form of a basic pump, the color works wonders for dressing up casual and work outfits. This pair of pumps (from ShoeMint during one their super sales), caught my eye not just because of the metallic color, but also because the shape of the shoe is strikingly similar to other classic pumps, such as the Manolo BB or Louboutin Pigalle (though with less toe-cleavage). The only thing I don’t like about these is that they wrinkle easily and, although they are leather, feel quite stiff on the foot.
