This past Saturday, DSW had their second National Shoe Lover Day extravaganza. My first experience with this wonderful holiday was last year. And since I don’t work there anymore, I couldn’t pass up a chance to win free shoes. The excitement and energy is great, and the temptation to splurge on shoes is even greater than normal. So what did I score? These wonderful ankle boots by Michael Kors! Luckily, they were on clearance so I didn’t actually spend as much as I thought I would. I was thrilled when I spotted them in my size because they’re a great bootie for fall. They look fantastic with jeans and a chunky knit sweater!
I’m not normally into the rocker inspired shoes, but these definitely caught my eye. I spotted them through the store window at King of Prussia and immediately walked in to try them on. The Bryn boot is definitely a statement-making pair with chunky studs and super high heel. They are undeniably hot! Unfortunately, if you have a higher than normal arch, they can be tricky to get on because there is no zipper. But have patience! I found that a thin sock creates a smoother experience. You can get these babies at your local MK store, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, or on Zappos.
Normally I don’t like chunky ankle straps because I feel that thinner ones accentuate the leg much better, but this particular pair of heels by Michael Kors captured my heart. The silhouette is very simple, but the bold buckle really makes the shoe speak volumes. The peep toe detail is a nice touch because it balances the heaviness of the ankle strap. These amazing shoes are a bit out of my budget, but I’ll be watching for a sale. I came across these at Macy’s in Center City, but you can also find them at Dillard’s.
I like to welcome spring with a bang. After months of wearing boots and closed shoes, slipping my feet into a fantastic pair of strappy sandals feels so great. This particular pair by Michael Kors is one of my favorites. I plucked them off the shelves at TJ Maxx some time ago, and didn’t even debate putting them in my cart after trying them on. The color is probably my favorite thing about them, but I also love how comfortable they are. Needless to say, they get many complements. I even won a couple contests by sharing these!
Back in October, I spotted a pair of black Michael Kors Fulton sneakers at Nordstrom Rack. They weren’t quite my style, so I let them go. Just recently, I came across the ones above at my local Marshalls, which I love. The tan color, accented with gold lining and silver glitter, works wonderfully as an updated neutral for casual outfits. Although both versions of the Fulton are super cool, it’s not surprising that I prefer the suede to the patent. Head over to your closest Marshalls to check them out!
I’m not a big shootie person, I don’t really like how they look on me. Since I’m a runner, my calves aren’t exactly bird-like, and my personal opinion is that shooties look better on long, thin legs. Since the tops of shooties and short ankle boots end at just above or just below the ankle, they tend to make average legs look stumpy, especially if you have disproportionately small feet for your height (like me). So I generally stay away from them. However, I couldn’t resist trying on these Michael Kors Brena booties when I spotted them at Nordstrom Rack. They have an old-school Victorian feel, but they’ve been updated with modern metal accents, and I adore the deep green color. They looked as I expected on my feet, so they went back on the shelves for someone else.
As much as I love high tops and wedge sneakers, there’s really nothing I like more than a classic low-top sneaker with a slim profile. Out of my entire collection, my Converse sneakers get the most wear and are replaced the most often. As I was searching for my next pair at DSW, I came across these fantastic sneakers from Michael Kors. They stood out not only because of the studded toes (a detail I absolutely love!) but also the hint of metallic shine in the leather. I actually mentioned the high top version of these sneakers in an earlier post, and I’m so glad I came across these. Despite the uniqueness, they are a wear-anywhere shoe because of the neutral color and classic profile. I hope they don’t wear out too quickly!
Studded shoes seem to be growing on me because I keep coming across styles that I really want. I especially love combinations of unexpected elements, such as feminine colors and shapes with edgier details. The Michael Kors Larissa is a perfect example. And although it looks fantastic in black (Zappos, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom), I absolutely love it in white (Macy’s) because an amazing balance of two different looks is achieved by combining the dainty white straps with hardcore studs. Without the metal accents, the shoes would look like any other evening sandal, but the studs add that extra element to make the shoes stand out among the rest.
I’ve been slightly obsessed with sneakers lately. I remember a time when cool, fashionable sneakers for women were harder to find. Nowadays, you can spot them everywhere! The only problem I have with this is that some designs are becoming slightly over the top, such as studded to the point they become weapons, or a ridiculous clash of textures and colors. But for the most part, there are some really amazing and unique styles out there in addition to the timeless classics. One of my favorite pairs is the Marc by Marc Jacobs lace high top above (Lord & Taylor, SSense, Bloomingdale’s, Zappos). I love the touch of femininity the lace adds, and the peek of blue among the black. I started looking for few pairs of fun styles for myself, and I’ve come across so many different options. It was quite hard to narrow the selection, but I’ve picked out my top 15 choices that will add a little pizazz to your casual look.
