Vans invented them, and now the fashion world is embracing them: slip on sneakers. The latest trend in footwear makes it possible to be simultaneously comfortable and stylish. But we’re not talking about your average canvas and elastic combination – luxe materials and fun prints have brought this classic style up to a whole new level.
I remember wearing slip on sneakers when I was a kid, they were huge in the 90s. Those and Keds were probably the most popular styles in my small town when I was growing up. Of course, basic styles never really go away, and when they do come back, they’re better than ever before. I’m so happy that there has been a shift towards comfortable and fashionable sneakers lately. Don’t get me wrong, I love my heels, but there are days when this shoe lover just wants to slip into something more low maintenance. I’m dying for a pair of leopard print pony-hair slip-on sneakers (ala Céline), but I came across these glitter ones at DSW and fell in love. And they were on clearance!
Back in October, I spotted a pair of black Michael Kors Fulton sneakers at Nordstrom Rack. They weren’t quite my style, so I let them go. Just recently, I came across the ones above at my local Marshalls, which I love. The tan color, accented with gold lining and silver glitter, works wonderfully as an updated neutral for casual outfits. Although both versions of the Fulton are super cool, it’s not surprising that I prefer the suede to the patent. Head over to your closest Marshalls to check them out!
As much as I have come to love wedge sneakers, I haven’t gone overboard in purchasing all the amazing styles I’ve seen out there, such as this pink pair and this leopard pair. I chose to stick to plain colors and simple details for versatility. The wedge sneakers above from Asos were the first pair I bought, and they’re very comfortable. I’ve gotten a lot of comments about them, so it was definitely a great choice. I also own a pair of black Ash sneakers, which I find slightly more painful if I wear them for long periods of time. They’re a little less flexible overall. But both of them are far more comfortable than other wedge sneakers I’ve tried on, so they’re winners in my books!
This photo doesn’t feature the shoes I’m wearing, but it does showcase the fantastic Joe’s Jeans I scored at TJ Maxx last week. Lucky for me (dangerous actually), there is a TJ Maxx on my way home from work. So, naturally, I stop in often during the week. I’m a sucker for cobalt blue, and I spotted these leather pants a little while ago for $80 (still a great deal for leather). But I waited, and the price eventually dropped to a staggering $15 with a yellow sticker, at which point I snatched them up without thinking twice. Usually when something has been on the racks for a while and gets marked this low, it tends to have some flaws; some of the other Joe’s Jeans had snags, stains, or tears. These, however, are perfectly flawless! The only thing wrong with them? They were accidentally labeled size 10 instead of size 2. I drove home with a big smile on my face.
Everyone has that go-to pair of shoes in their closet, the pair that goes with everything and is super comfortable. And if you don’t, look no further than these boots by Enzo Angiolini (available at DSW or Nordstrom). The Saharia is a perfect blend of casual comfort and effortless cool. The style is so timeless that they’ll quickly become your best friend! I’m hoping to add a pair to my closet, as soon as I can track them down to try them on.
I currently own three pairs of Vince Camuto shoes, and they’re all extremely comfortable, even the really high heels. So there’s no doubt in my mind that the Follie sneakers (available on ShoeBox and Dillard’s) would probably be one of the best wedge sneakers out there. Even without holding them in my hand, I can tell that the modest 2.75″ heel paired with lacing and padded suede upper adds to the comfort of these shoes. The quilting and teeny studs are such a great detail and add to the uniqueness of these sneakers. If I get a chance to try on a pair, I’ll report back! In the meantime, grab yourself a pair (they’re on sale!) and let me know what you think.
