Shoe of the Day: Dainty but Daring

Studded shoes seem to be growing on me because I keep coming across styles that I really want. I especially love combinations of unexpected elements, such as feminine colors and shapes with edgier details.¬† The Michael Kors Larissa is a perfect example. And although it looks fantastic in black (Zappos, Bloomingdale’s, Nordstrom), I absolutely love it in white (Macy’s) because an amazing balance of two different looks is achieved by combining the dainty white straps with hardcore studs. Without the metal accents, the shoes would look like any other evening sandal, but the studs add that extra element to make the shoes stand out among the rest.

Tuesday Shoesday: Strapped In

Jessica-Simpson-Farrow-Heeled-Sandal

I’ve never really been a fan of Jessica Simpson shoes, mostly because I have yet to find a pair that fits comfortably on my feet. Many of the styles never particularly grabbed my attention either; I find most of them too plain, too high, unoriginal, or not classy enough for my tastes. Lately, however, I’ve spotted a pair or two that would fit in rather well with the rest of my collection, and it’s making me wonder whether there’s someone new designing shoes for the brand. I’ll have to do a little digging to find out, but in the mean time, salivate over this super sexy strappy sandal I found during a trip to DSW. I didn’t get a chance to try them on, but they look like they’d fit on the foot pretty snugly because of all the straps.

Double-Take: Coach Laila

I’ve already confessed that I don’t like bows on my shoes (I think I have maybe two pairs of flats with a dainty little bow on them). Yet I couldn’t help but stop and look at these simply darling heels by Coach while I was meandering the shoe department at Macy’s in Philadelphia.

Double-Take: Manolo Blahnik Fersen

I’ve mentioned before that I find shoes that play with illusion quite interesting. The best styles are ones that make it seem as if the shoe is barely held onto the foot. Others are more subtle with transparent sections, such as this elegant sandal from Manolo Blahnik.

Double-Take: Gucci Jane Sandal Bootie

There are endless possibilities when designing a shootie, and the Gucci Jane sandal bootie (still available on Yoox) is a perfect example of the ideal balance between sandal and shoe. The front of the shoe covers the foot, while the back leaves it exposed, yet secured with the two ankle straps. I also love the use of both leather and suede. The Jane is, in my opinion, a very stunning and versatile shoe. It can be worn with bare legs, tights, and would probably even look great with textured socks. You can still catch it on some flash sale sites (last spotted on Ideeli for $640) but even then, they’re still pricey.

Jimmy-Choo-Ivette-Silver-Strappy-Evening-Sandal

Double-Take: Jimmy Choo Ivette

You can always count on gorgeous, delicate evening shoes from Jimmy Choo. The Ivette sandal (Nordstrom, Saks) particularly stands out because the straps are thoughtfully placed in a way that accentuates the curves of the foot and ankle; the shoe looks very elegant when worn! It’s available in both gold and silver leather with a 3.5″ heel. If you’re looking for something higher, the Lang sandal has the exact same strap construction except with a higher heel. You can find Lang in silver, pink, nude, and neon yellow.

Tuesday Shoesday: Custom Shoes!

It’s a particularly special Tuesday Shoesday because I finally get to share the custom shoes I won from Upper Street in May!

Upper Street London is a bespoke shoe designing site where you can get really creative and design the perfect pair of beautiful and unique shoes. I’m guilty of spending countless hours using their shoe designer to create little masterpieces. But my obsession with the site paid off in the end. How? #ShoesDayTuesday…the magical Twitter hashtag.

Valentino-Rockstud-Flat-Sandal

Double-Take: Valentino Rockstud Sandals

Who needs flip-flops if this kind of magical creation exists? I love these sandals (also in pink), I think they’re the epitome of cool summer style. You can get the original Valentino design at MyTheresa and Forward by Elyse Walker. Unfortunately, my pockets don’t run this deep. Luckily, I found what is possibly the best double-take version of a Valentino Rockstud style. The structure, color, and studs on the Denise sandal by Schutz mirror the original. The best part, the lining and upper are 100% leather!

Double-Take: Valentino Rockstud Flats

I think the Rockstud flats are probably the most successful of the studded Valentino styles. They are easily more versatile than the other designs, and definitely amp up the cool factor of an otherwise normal pair of flats. They come in so many great colors as well (pink, yellow, red, and nude)! There are a couple nice double-takes out there of this style.

Valentino-Rockstud-Peeptoe-Pump

Double-Take: Valentino Rockstud Pumps

Valentino branched out a bit from the t-strap design and also create Rockstud styles that follow more classic shapes, such as peep-toe pumps and flats. I love the neutral palette on the this pump, and it’s also available in red. The shape is very classic, and the studs add just the right amount of edge to an otherwise simple pump. You can find them on FarFetch.
