How wonderful it is that Tuesday Shoesday falls on New Year’s Eve, a night during which every shoe lover should don their most fantastic footwear to great the new year! I was lucky enough to find these lovelies from the Ralph Lauren Collection some time ago and have been waiting for the perfect occasion to wear them. My NYE celebrations aren’t exactly a place for designer footwear (I care about my shoes too much to subject them to spilled drinks and clumsy dancing) so I’ll be saving these for another special event, such as Valentine’s day.
Chelsea boots never completely went away, but now their popularity is increasing again due to updated silhouettes, such as pointed toes and studded details. They also come in various heel heights, like the fantastic pair above by Saint Laurent. This heeled adaptation is just as classic as the original flat version.
In my opinion, some of the most memorable shoes from the Fall/Winter 2013 collections came from the Balenciaga show. There were endless boots, minimalist sandals, and some very intriguing pumps. The pumps combine the airiness of a thong sandal and the elegance of a classic point-toe pump.
I’ve never believed in the “No white after Labor Day” rule for fashion; white is a classic color that can be worn year round as long as it’s styled properly. There are many shades of white and one of my favorites is “winter white,” which is not quite white and not quite cream, it’s a subtle ivory color that goes with everything. These wedge boots by Isabel Marant are the perfect shade of winter white, and would look amazing with pale grey jeans and a chunky cable-knit sweater. I especially love the little tufts of fur poking out from between the straps, it’s a unique touch to a simple boot. They’re currently on sale on Net-a-Porter, so grab a pair before they’re gone!
As I wrote yesterday, my taste in smoking slippers ranges from simple to embellished. I recently found a more feminine pair on HauteLook (still waiting for them to arrive!), but studded and embellished styles are my favorite. I got these at DSW a little while ago, and I’ve fallen in love with them. They’re great for jazzing up a casual outfit and sparkle amazingly at night!
I don’t normally purchase this brand because their shoes are usually made from uncomfortable materials, but this pair is made entirely of cloth so they’re super soft and flexible. The only uncomfortable feature is the extremely thin sole, but I fixed that easily with a sheepskin insole (these are my favorite) that’s thin enough to fit in flats but also add great cushioning!
I can’t resist shoes with fluffy details. If I could, I’d snap them all up! I still can’t forget about “the ones that got away” because of my rationalized decision. Looking back, I probably could have kept them and paid them off by now, but at the time, it didn’t seem like the best idea. I’ve [sort of] made peace with that and hopefully something else equally as fabulous will come along. I have my eye on these edgy-yet-adorable Sergio Rossi boots I spotted on ShoeBox. They’re both fashionable and practical because the height is easy to walk in, and the styling is classic. I can just picture myself wearing them with black tights and a cozy green sweater dress. Now if only I can find them for less!
One thing I love about wandering in downtown Philadelphia during the holiday season is the abundance of holiday bargains, especially on shoes! I popped into the Kenneth Cole store on Walnut and my eye was immediately drawn to these ultra-modern ankle strap heels in black and white. I love the barely-curved heel with the thicker ankle strap and the angular cuts of the vamp. It’s not your ordinary pump! The Watts is available in different color combinations, including silver. This particular pair wasn’t on sale, but there were others to choose from. I’ll be keeping an eye on these and hopefully the price drops soon!
