Nine West x InStyle Stylet
Designer and retail chains have been creating joint collections for a while now, but the idea seems to have gained popularity and momentum over the past couple years, especially since the recession hit. Target and H&M are widely known for their designer collaborations, most notably collections with Karl Lagerfeld, Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Lanvin, and Versace. The collaborations have mostly been between high-end designers and fast-fashion retailers, and the collections usually consist of a variety of clothing styles. However, it seems that others are starting to see the benefits. I’ve been waiting for more designer shoe collaborations, and it looks like the idea might be catching on.
Earlier this year, Aldo Rise released an amazing collection with Preen. There were several styles that I loved, but I never got my hands on a pair because my size was always sold out. There was also a lot of hype about a collaboration between J. Crew and Manolo Blahnik, which unfortunately never happened. But it gives me hope that shoe designers will see the benefits of providing amazing styles to people who love luxury but can’t afford it. The good news is that Sarah Jessica Parker will be releasing a collaboration-collection early next year with the CEO of Manolo Blahnik. I’m extremely excited for this, but I’ll definitely have to save up if I want to snatch a pair as soon as they’re available.
In the meantime, another collaboration is generating some talk: shoe powerhouse Nine West collaborated with InStyle magazine to design a limited-edition collection for this fall. The collection includes 26 pairs of shoes, ranging from flats to pumps to ankle boots, in various materials. The best part about this collection is that everything is priced at $150 or less. The collection has actually been available since mid-August, but it’s been getting more attention. I finally got a chance to head to my local Nine West store and check out some of the designs. My favorite is a pair of flats (above), which coincidentally has the same name as my blog. I also really love the edgy yet sophisticated Comete bootie.
