After a summer full of whites and bright colors, I look forward to the muted tones of fall and winter. These pumps by Schutz are a perfect transition style because they retain the ladylike silhouette of a summer shoe, but are crafted with colors and textures perfect for the fall season. Around here, temperatures stay warm for a while, so this pair is perfect for those sunnier fall days when I don’t want to wear boots just yet. I actually snagged them last year during the final clearance markdowns of summer. I personally think this is the best time to look for transition pieces since the stores clear out their stock to make room for fall and winter goodies.
It’s fantastic when the heel becomes a focal point on a pair of pumps, and Casadei has a great reputation for that. The iconic Blade pump is instantly recognizable for it’s sleek and modern shape. For the fall 2013 collection, Casadei took a walk on the wild side with animal prints and chunkier heels. This sculpted zebra heel is covered in pony hair and creates a beautiful contrast with the black suede upper. It came in several styles, including pumps, ankle boots, t-strap pumps, and jaw-dropping thigh high boots.
I had one of those “stop everything!” moments when I saw the email from Saks pop into my mailbox announcing a shoe sale. I like to check everything out before it’s all gone, so I headed to the site right away. And I wasn’t disappointed with the selection! Here are some of my picks:
Grommets can sometimes look tacky or overdone, but Tamara Mellon strikes a great balance. They give this feminine minimalist sandal a tough-luxe vibe without making it look too heavy. If you’re loving this look, head over to her website to see some more stunners on clearance.
I have a love-hate relationship with asymmetric shoes; they have to be made just right to actually create a flattering look on the foot. But every now and then, I come across what I consider a real stunner. These pumps by Sergio Rossi are perfectly balanced when it comes to coverage, and the slim strap will make any ankle look dainty. I also love the deep indigo color, which is great for the upcoming fall season.
The Manolo Blahnik Chaos sandal played a huge role in the minimalist sandal movement. It’s not hard to see why: the shoes are classic, comfortable, and timeless. Black and nude work great with all outfits, but grab a pair in citron or orange for a pop of color with your spring and summer outfits.
Fringe played a major role this past spring, but I’ve always felt that it’s a texture more suitable to fall. It can add a great boho or rocker vibe. I’m not the biggest fan of heavy amounts of fringe, so I think it’s best to stick to one statement piece in an outfit. Of course I’m going to choose shoes, and these pumps from Alice + Olivia are a great place to start. If they’re out of your size, check out this sandal from Stuart Weitzman.
Similar to the Manolo BB, the Jimmy Choo Anouk pump is another classic style. Pretty much every celebrity has been seen wearing a pair, and it’s easy to see why; the pump has a timeless shape and comes in various colors that can be worn with anything. But since I like classic with a twist, I’m more drawn to the studded Anouk. I love the little baby studs all over the shoe. It’s not quite punk, but it turns a basic black pump into something a little more unique. You can snag a pair on FarFetch, or check out some of the great double-takes I’ve found.
It’s no secret that I absolutely adore Casadei shoes. From season to season, there’s always something new, fantastic, and unexpected in the collections. I especially love the styles that have both lady-like elegance and edgier details. The sleek iconic blade heel really balances out the multiple tiny straps in this pair. I think the design evokes a little bit of bad-ass energy as well as a sophisticated feel. They’re sold out by now (last seen on Selfridges) but I managed to find a great double-take by Schutz instead.
Yoox is one of my favorite sites for browsing (and shopping of course). They’re the company behind Shoescribe and other fashion sites (Giuseppe Zanotti, Diesel, and Alexander Wang, to name a few, and you can always find a fantastic deal or two. It’s usually the first site I check for sold out or past season styles, which you can find for significantly less than the original retail price. And right now, you can get an extra 20% off all sale items with the code LASTCALL. Shopping their sales takes a little skill, considering things sell out quite quickly because the inventory usually only includes a few items in each size. I’ve picked out a few of my favorites to help you out:
This neutral sandal from Fendi is perfect for summer, and would look great with a white shirt dress.
Even though the winter season is over, the embellished sole makes these Le Silla boots a unique statement piece. And the overall style of these boots is basic enough to make them a classic staple in any shoe lover’s collection.
Spring and summer are right around the corner, and I think this braided sandal by Alexander Birman will pair perfectly with florals.
I’m not a fan of patent leather, but something about these Pierre Hardy high top sneakers calls out to me.
We all know I’m a fan of blue suede, and these super sleek Le Silla ankle boots would fit right into my collection. Pair them with graphic black and white for a mod look, or rock the one-color look with a dress in the same shade.
You can check out the rest of the shoes on sale here, and don’t forget to browse through the clothing as well.
I know it’s only the beginning of November, but my mind is already jumping ahead to the holiday season. And there’s no better way to accessorize for those seasonal celebrations than with a pair of sparkling ankle boots! This pair by Aldo caught my eye as I passed by the store window at the King of Prussia Mall. They are such a great statement piece. I love pairing shimmering footwear with simpler dresses because they stand out so much more. However, they didn’t come home with me because I had already gotten a sequin dress. One glitzy purchase was enough that day!
I posted about leopard print sneakers last year, but I ended up selling those when I did a closet clean out. Apparently I wasn’t quite ready to let go, because as soon as I came across these at Saks off Fifth, I knew I had to have them. You might recognize the style as a Jimmy Choo double-take from this post. And as much as I love the version in black glitter, I couldn’t resist the leopard. I definitely prefer the Sovann style over the Heydi sneakers I used to have because I love the contrasting black trim. They’re also super comfortable, and have become my go-to pair of sneakers for this fall!
This past Saturday, DSW had their second National Shoe Lover Day extravaganza. My first experience with this wonderful holiday was last year. And since I don’t work there anymore, I couldn’t pass up a chance to win free shoes. The excitement and energy is great, and the temptation to splurge on shoes is even greater than normal. So what did I score? These wonderful ankle boots by Michael Kors! Luckily, they were on clearance so I didn’t actually spend as much as I thought I would. I was thrilled when I spotted them in my size because they’re a great bootie for fall. They look fantastic with jeans and a chunky knit sweater!
The weather is starting to get a little nippy around here, and I’m definitely impatient to break out my fall footwear. I usually don’t start wearing boots or cozy shoes until about mid October. Even though the first day of fall was September 23rd, it’s still not quite cold enough to bundle up. The Michael Kors Lizzie Sneaker is a great transition shoe. The deep caramel suede is a perfect color for fall, and the shearling lining around the ankle is great for warding off a chilly breeze. I can see these being worn into the winter as well. They’d look super cute with jeans and a chunky knit sweater!
